Why you Must be Different: How to Photograph Your Swimwear Collection

All swimwear gets photographed the same way: pretty girls enjoy the beach or the pool. Many of those brands have very pretty pictures. But they are forgotten in an instant – for a good reason. If you want to be remembered, you need to do it differently

You do not need to do what everybody does to show you can reach the “professional standard”. Human perception and memory doesn’t work that way. If you do what everybody does, you are blending in. You will be forgotten instantly. To be remembered, with emotions preferably, you need to do it differently.

What We Remember

If we meet ten black-haired men named “Tom” we won’t remember a single one of them. But if there is a red-haired “Alastair” dividing the sea of black-haired Toms, you will remember him.

And that’s what you have to do: be the red-haired Alastair that is remembered, not the black-haired and forgotten Tom.

We do not remember things that are similar to our experience. We remember those that are different.

We cannot remember what we see all the time. We only remember what is different. In order to be remembered, you have to be different. It’s not the jungle out there. It’s not “Adapt or Die”. It’s “Stand out or be forgotten – and then die.”+

Description vs Imagination

There are setups for swimwear that are unusual and stunning. That will rattle the viewer and make her or him remember you. It’s impossible not to remember when you see swimwear photographed in a complete different way. The sky – and your courage – is the limit. Many of the fastest rising brands have shown a lot of courage. Which propelled their rise.

Each brand has their own direction where to take their courage. It is to explore the energy of the design and the personality of the founder, owner or creative director that always unearths the unusual all on its own. Nothing ever works if forced. The unusual, the typical has to be discovered, and then fostered with all the energy and courage available.

How do be Unusual Naturally

Each brand and its owner and creative director are different. Once you really take in the personality you cannot go back to cliches. And if you are courageous to follow your naturally destined path, you will get images like nobody else has.

To be remembered is the key asset in an overcrowded marketplace

You will be seen as something human, personal, and alive in a landscape of robotic cliches. You will be loved and emotionally remembered and revisited again and again. You will grow.
